This striking Banded Agate slab originates from the storied agate fields of Chihuahua, a region long revered for producing agates with exceptional structure and rhythm. Its natural banding moves in measured layers across the surface — steady, deliberate, and unmistakably geological — offering both visual depth and a strong sense of balance.

Hand-cut and polished in our studio, this freeform slab was shaped to preserve the integrity of its banding while elevating the stone to a mirror-like finish. The result is a piece that feels both raw and refined — equally at home in the hands of a maker or displayed as a specimen in its own right.

Design Notes

Each slab is hand-cut and finished in-house using a traditional, multi-stage lapidary process:

• Flat-lap grinding from 80–800 grit to refine surfaces and remove saw marks

• Progressive honing to prepare the stone for final polish

• Finished using gem-grade polishing techniques

• Multiple compressed felt industrial pads selected for the stone’s specific polishing needs

• Polished with alumina oxide and complementary compounds to achieve maximum clarity and depth

The surface is smooth, reflective, and display-ready — a finish that honors both the stone and the process behind it.

This slab is well-suited for jewelry making, particularly statement pendants, bold rings, or mixed-material designs, while also standing beautifully on its own as a collector or display piece.

Banded agate pairs exceptionally well with sterling silver, oxidized silver, and yellow or antiqued gold, where its layered structure can be echoed or contrasted by metalwork.
