Polished Maw Sit Sit Jade Burma
Maw sit sit is a chromium-rich rock found in only one known location in the world: the jade-mining district of Kachin State in northern Burma (Myanmar), where it occurs alongside jadeite deposits. It is not technically jadeite or nephrite, but a distinct mineral aggregate dominated by kosmochlor, a sodium chromium pyroxene, alongside jadeite and other chromium silicates. What this produces visually is an intense, saturated green unlike almost anything else in the lapidary world, typically patterned with black chromite veining or matrix that runs through the stone in bold, irregular streaks.
Maw sit sit stone polishes to a high gloss and is hard enough for cabochons, carvings, and inlay work. Because it comes from a single, geographically constrained deposit with no known equivalents elsewhere, supply is genuinely limited. These slabs show the material's characteristic chromium green with black matrix patterning throughout.
