Polished Utah Gem Agatized Dinosaur Bone

Agatized dinosaur bone is exactly what the name says: genuine dinosaur bone where the original organic material has been replaced over millions of years by chalcedony or agate, preserving the cellular structure of the bone in stone. What you see when this material is polished is a cross-section of that structure, a mosaic of cells in warm reds, browns, golds, and creams, each piece completely distinct depending on which minerals filled which cavities during fossilisation.

This material comes from the Morrison Formation in Utah, one of the most productive sources of gem-quality agatized dinosaur bone in the world, dating to the Late Jurassic period roughly 150 million years ago. "Gem bone," as it's known in the lapidary world, refers specifically to material where the cellular structure has been replaced by high-quality silica rather than plain calcite, producing pieces that polish well and hold strong colour. We carry multiple specimens ranging from 22 to 95 grams, including pieces with large cell structure, rare patterning, deep red colouration, and black bone material.
