Sugilite Gel Cabochon (11ct)

Sale price$517.00

Gel sugilite is the rarest grade of an already rare mineral. Most sugilite is opaque and manganese-heavy, showing a solid purple colour with limited translucency. Gel-grade sugilite goes further: the stone has a translucent, almost jelly-like quality that lets light pass through in a way standard sugilite simply doesn't. It's this clarity, combined with the mineral's characteristic deep violet-to-magenta colour, that puts gel sugilite in a category of its own among collector-grade cabochons.

Sugilite itself is found in only one meaningful source worldwide: the Wessels Mine in South Africa's Kalahari Manganese Field. High-grade material from this deposit is increasingly scarce as accessible gem-quality zones are depleted. This sugilite gel cabochon a well-proportioned stone suited for a pendant or a statement ring setting.
